The Home-Builders’ Federation (HBF) has revealed that planning permissions have increased 33% since quarter four, 2011 in their latest Housing Pipeline report.
In the first quarter of 2012 36,761 properties were granted planning permission, a big increase on 27,732 in quarter four of 2011.
Executive Chairman of HBF, Stewart Baseley holds a positive view on the increase in planning permissions but believes that numbers need to steadily increase to support the property market in the long-term.
He noted on house-builder.co.uk that: “How local authorities interpret the new planning system will be crucial,” he commented. “They now have the power, but with that comes responsibility and they must act to meet their area’s housing needs.”
